Encrypted Version All Of A Sudden Feels Sluggish

For those that are still using version 3.0. the non-encrypted version, does your forum suddenly feel sluggish than ever before?

All of a sudden, it takes more than five seconds to edit, post, create a new thread on a 3mb/sec speed. Even the webhost admin mentioned that for some odd reason, few of the threads in my forum are causing server stress although there was nothing fishy about the thread page.

I don't want to upgrade to 3.1 as my forum is not big enough to benefit from the unencrypted version. Any valid reasons why editing and posting the contents take several seconds?
