Creating shapshot of live site on local pc

I have full install of vbseo along with sitemap hack. Previously, I could quickly update my local pc with a snapshot of the live site to do dev work as well have have another local backup.

I currently have issues running optimizer locally. So I cannot currently run vbseo locally.

Is there a convenient way to switch off/disable the local snapshot so I can run WITHOUT vbseo locally? At present I can not even get to the admin control panel.

    Thanks!

You can edit config_vbseo.php manually and set the enabled flag to 0.

I did that with no change in results. I deleted the .htaccess before that (locally). I would think that it wouldn't make any difference in trying to run vb w/o vbseo.

    Hello Larry,

if you don't have encoding libraries installed, you should also remove vBSEO files (vbseo.php/functions_vbseo.php).

Well, it wasn't pretty but I ripped out all vbseo files, deleted .htaccess files (root and admincp). THEN I was able to get to my front page. A couple of errors appeared showing that vb was 'looking' for vbseo. I then uninstalled vbseo and now all is running.

Now I am left wondering about a more elegant way to run vb w/o vbseo. Perhaps it would be possible for vbseo to present a switch to disable itself if an optimizer is not present.

If you will have vBSEO product disabled in vB admincp, it will be enough to remove .htaccess file only.

vBSEO code is not executed when zend optimizer is not installed, so it can't switch off itself in this case.

As a courtesy to others reading this thread, I copied my db from live to local PC along with all the code.

After updating config.php, I tried to launch the site directly to admincp in order to unistall vbseo. Well, I got the dreaded page saying I need Zend optimizer... Although my phpinfo() says it is installed.

So I did a search for all vbseo files in the site and deleted them. Then I deleted .htaccess files. Then I was able to make it over to admincp in order to uninstall vbseo. Whala!! It is running again locally. Now I can hack (adn debug) away.

I do like what vbseo brings to my site (www.noblood.org). I have/am learning much about SEO along the way. I also want to thank everyone that has jumped in to answer my questions.
