Consolidating Forums - will new URLs work?

    Hello,

we are in the process of consolidating our forums to new subforums.

How about the new URLs, will they work?

    We use the following schema:

    http://www. mcseboard .de/mcse-forum-allgemein-3/nh-walkin-128451.html

My tests show, that changing the forum goes fine as long as it follows the following syntax:

    domain/forumname-number/thread-number.html

Just to doublecheck: Do you know of any problems or downsides or any reason or caveat before we start?

Old forumnames and thus forum-urls are going to change...

    Thanks

Yes, it should work since the thread ID is in the URL. You can move a thread to any forum and old links will be automatically 301-redirected to the new location. It could hurt your search engine stats for a little while as they hit all the 301's, if you move a large number of threads around.
