    Confused the hell outta google....

Please can you check my sanity....

We're into around our second week with vBSEO now and google, msn, slurp et al are still not venturing deeper than our homepage....

I've checked and rechecked our code and can't see anything wrong.

Can someone please take a look in case I'm too close to woods to see the trees.

I would have expected at least slurp and msn to be crawling pretty deep by now.

    Thank you for your help.

    Rob

    looks good

I really didn't see anything wrong. I noticed you list all the threads in your forums (by default) instead of the typical last 30 days. I guess you're giving the bots alot to eat up. I also couldn't see who's online unless I was logged in. You may want to change that so everyone can see it including the bots.

    Actually....

I submitted a new robots.txt to google's urgent page removal system yesterday.

The pages I removed from serps (now 404's) will be replaced when google has re-crawled all the site properly.

Re-mapping URL's with redirects was never possible in my case as I came from PHPbb... all the postID's changed.

In my senario, it's always best to remove old serps becuase google wont see new pages it finds as duplicates of what's already in their index.

I did this yesterday and since submitting it, google is now happily crawling around.... whether it's related, I can't tell.

What is the importance of having spiders be able to see who's online?

There isnt really an essential importance it is more of a feature for guests rather than spiders. Most will join a forum based on its activity and forum statistics regardless, but then again it is always nice to reward those active, online users with a chance for Google to spider their profile and their website URL.

Google can take a few weeks to do the indexing - 2 weeks really is nothing - have patience.

I dont give guests the ability to view profiles, I guess that blocks spiders as well. Ooops. Guess I better make that adjustement.
