    config.xml stays writable

    Hello,
No matter what I CHMOD the config.xml, it says writable.
I tried it 644, but still getting the message "Your config.xml is writable. Don't forget to update permissions after you finish updating the configuration for security purposes."

Also, I can't CHMOD it to 444. Whenever I try 444, it goes to 644.

You need to consult your host regarding this. There is nothing we can do about it. Your host should correct permissions.

Mert, what is the proper permission setup on a Apache server running on CentOS 64Bit?

It shows me the Owner/Group as 503/500 in my FTP Client.

Every server has different setups so there is no exact answer for this question.

Some hosts don't let you do it via ftp, only via their control panel.

I have changed it FTP and went to Cpanel and they both say 644.

So what now? Does it need to be something else?

Does it still say it's writable? if so, try 444.

The one thing I have missed throughout all this is the exact numerical factor the file should be: Is it 644 or 444?

It reverts back to 644 after trying 444 using FTP. I will try using the control Panel now...

Okay, after using Cpanel and changing attributes to 444 it says:

Note: Your config.xml is not writable. Settings cannot be saved.

I suppose this is good, right? :-)

    If not, let me know.

If this is right then you ought to let folks know that 444 is the setting they need and to make the changes via cpanel file manager.

That's what you want it to say, yes. And yes, some hosts don't let you do it via ftp, only through their host/filemanger/etc setup as mentioned config.xml stays writable
