Concerned about performance using vbSEO

I have seen this hack in action and considering that there are 0 template edits is it correct to assume that you are str_replacing or whatever every single link on the page? Doesn't it affect the performance assuming that it happens every single time and there is no caching (atleast one that can be seen with the naked eye)

Yes, server load will be higher than without vbSEO. How much depends on how powerful the server, and how busy the site.

When I first switched my load went WAY up; it has since leveled back out. Still higher than it was without vbSEO, but not intolerable.

Also, I just switched to the Zend version from the Ioncube version, and my load levels have dropped even more.

Unfortunately I cannot use the Zen version, but I don't feel a differnece on the ioncube version.
