I have vbseo installed and have a very good ranking in google. My site uses a localised tld of .co.uk and I am moving it to an industry related tld like .travel. This is because I am losing out on international visitors to my site as it is regarded as a uk travel site however it also has travel content that is of use in other parts of the world. By moving to an industry tld I believe my site will become more internationally regarded and industry specific - the physic of it all.
How I was going to do it was move the entire site to the .travel domain and set up a 301 redirect on the .co.uk domain to the .travel domain. After about 3 months remove the redirect and create uk specific pages on the .co.uk site. This will mean the links that other UK sites have to mine will still be relevent
This I hope will give me 2 sites - one that has international content and useful all around the world and one that has uk specific content however they will be tightly integrated in terms of linking between each other.
My questions are:
1. Does all this sound right?
2. Will my international site lose its google ranking for the google searches that are done by uk residents because of its tld extension - Google knows where you live!
3. Should I create a whole new domain site for the UK specific content and just leave the redirect indefinitly?
Thanks for any advice
