Change of Forum Name

Hey all,

I need to change the name of one of my forum categories, create another one and move all relevant threads from that forum category to the new one. Can anyone tell me the best way to do this without every search within the "old" forum category coming up with 404's?

[FORUM A] - FULL OF POSTS
CREATE [FORUM B] - Split and move all relevant threads from "A" to "B"

Hello,

All of your threads will be automatically 301ed to the new location as they have the threadid in them.

Ahhh, I see.

So this will cause me no search engine issues then?

The search engines should upgrade the URL to the new destination. There may be a couple lost, a couple new ones added, etc. 301 isn't perfect, but its the best option.

So, just to get this straight before I start - do I move the posts to the new forum with re-directs (if so, which type) or not?

If you move the threads, they are automatically 301ed.

Either move option is fine. Leaving a redirect will only enhance the old forumdisplay page if people are looking in that forum for an old thread.
