A user wanted to post the following link:

But if he does, then he get's the 30-second timeout from within vbseo and so the post doesn't get created.

Why?
Is there something about extracting metdata from the linked page?

Yes, this is likely related to the 'title' grab for the link. The vbseo script should 'timeout' itself before the server though. I've flagged this for a developer to review.

Please try to modify functions_vbseo_misc.php file:
find:
preg_match('#<title.*?\>(.+?)</title.*?\>#is', $ptext, $tmatch);
replace with:
preg_match('#<title[^>]*?\>(.+?)</title[^>]*?\>#is', $ptext, $tmatch);
