    My board isn't new (2002), so for me, users have been using - & _ (among other things) for years, so all my member profiles had to have the user ID (the number) as part of the member profile URL, so for me it's a non issue.

    So even though i had vbSEO running for a while, I decided to go Brians route. I'm not concerned about the short term impact and looking to the future. I have one quick question Brian: All my FORUM titles now read f4 etc. This isnt what your forum shows, so I was wondering if I missed a step somewhere. Also, all my thread urls no longer read the title but instead t3434.....is this correct??

    Thanks

    Sorry Brian, I read the 2nd paragraph...but not sure what you want me to focus on. I uploaded your vbseo_all.xml file and the extensions are all gone (which is what i wanted)...however, when comparing to your site, you still show forum names and thread names.....i do not....thats the part im confused about

    Thanks

    If you see after the 2nd quote, i make a note that my flagship site does NOT use this file, as it is simply too late.

    You want to disallow all unwanted pages. So you should rewrite all wanted pages, and leave unwanted pages as they are (with html html ending)...

    hi,

    You need view Attached Files vbseo_all.xml on first post. As I see, Briansol does not use .html in vbseo so he can disable .html and htm in robots.txt. I think that.

    Right.

    if you use my format in the XML, you will have NO html pages. Thus, you should block *html

    If you are already indexed, DO NOT CHANGE.
    Keep your current settings.

    If you do change, realize that you will be effectively starting over from day 1.

    briansol, thanks for all the nice and detailed instruction.

    Unfortunetly... I uploaded the vbseo_all.xml attached here without backing up my configuration. For some reason this vbseo_all.xml totally messed up my header and menubar and made the whole forum unusable.

    I had to uninstall the and reinstall vbseo and reupload the files and everything is back to default. But as soon as I visit vbseocp.php it reloads the vbseo_all.xml i downloaded from here and messes up the website again.

    Does someone have a copy of a default vbseo_all.xml that I can upload? or any idea how I can fix this?

    Weird.

    The xml settings have 0 template changes in it.

    You can revert to default settings by opening includes/config_vbseo.php in a txt editor, and setting

    define('VBSEO_CONFIG_INIT', '0');

    to

    define('VBSEO_CONFIG_INIT', '1');

    and then revisiting vbseocp.php in your browser.
    It will re-load default settings from there.
