Before i fully remove VBSEO

I want to give VBSEO a little more time before i fully remove it from my forums as i doubt it is working for me. I had a site which i let close that was actually doing well in google pages and traffic etc, after about a year i uploaded an old sql file and opened up the forum again, i had lost about the last 10 months of the old forums posts as this was the only sql file i had. Since i reopened it the site is hardly mentioned in the pages of google other than the odd posts etc. So i am thinking along the lines of starting again from fresh. As i have read on here that 001 should not be used unless some settings are changed, i have everything set as default, would 002 setting help me if i was to start all over again?

Does default settings work??

I am thinking along the lines of why use it if it doesn't work.

Google has come a long way in the way it indexes content. Old, stale content will never index well unless it has a LOT of back links to it. Trying to a rank a site with all old content is a failure from the start.

001 is fine, so long as you don't allow special characters in usernames or album titles. If you do, you should alter the preset to include ID's for member pages and albums, or some members won't be able to access their profile if a simmilar name exists. (ie, $bill and and -bill with both try to load members/-bill/ and obviously one won't work. This is easily done under the advanced tab.

In your case, vbseo isn't the problem, it's your content. You can surely keep the old posts in the forum, but you need to contribute and work on it and get it fresh again before google will give you any love, vbseo or not.

You can believe default settings are well thought and very good. I know alot of forums with default settings makes over 100k uniques with defaults. But most of these forums are +4 years old. When you do a seo patience is very much needed. Everysite ranks higher lower every 2 months or 6 months depends on the backlinks, it's reputation, load speed and content. when you change the url structure you push a reset button for all links. And then these new links start collecting zero some pr and ranking factors. For this reason i no recommend to change url structure so often and the structure show it self no less than 2 years fuly in the serps. You content goes up and down depend on several searches and google check each ranked site during 2 years. If the quality content and satisfiying the visitor in every ranking time it goes up and down. You should get the picture.

And the problem is not here only the url structure but mainly the visitor behaviour over the content and presantation you have. Keep getting more fresh content and more backlinks with standart settings you can soar!

Yes i believe the gain will not be much enough. Some more fresh content and backlinks is the cure You can buy a seo service like socialbookmarking or directory submission. It's going to help your sites seo. Also you can use pingler.com for pinging your site for more search engines traffic.
