    Acronym Expansion: problem and question

    Hi,

    I have a question on using acronym expansion. So far I haven't disabled this great feature because I totally missed it. Stupid me ;-). I wonder if I can enable it and also apply it to URL's without changing existing links. Does enabling acronym expansion overwrite existing links? Will it work on old posts or only from the point I start using acronyms? Would you recommend to enable it after not using it for years?

    Second, in my test forum I was playing around with possible acronyms and figured a little problem. I set it to "'abbr' html tag to acronyms" which is my favorite setting. Whenever I add my own acronyms I face problems with the spelling.

    The example

    'seo'=>'Search Engine Optimization'

    works fine and shows in posts as "Search Engine Optimization".

    When I add my own ones, for example:

    'robert'=>'Robert Smith'

    it shows like "robert Smith".

    Or

    'cure'=>'The Cure'

    is showing as "The cure".

    All acronyms I add with two words or names show either the first or second word with a capital but not both. Any ideas what the reason is and how to fix it? I would like to have it consistent. Thank you very much!

    It's basically getting double-replaced because the expansion is the acronym. I'm not sure that there's a fix for this as you're using it beyond the scope it was dessigned for.

    'cure' isn't an acronym.

    Hm, maybe I misunderstood the sense of acronyms? Can you recommend a thread or article where I can read more for a better understanding how to use them? Is it only about abbreviations like 'seo'?

    And what about the questions in my first paragraph? Thanks Brian.

    An acronym is just that.. a 'smaller string' that really means something else. By terms of defining something, you can't describe something with the word, just like in a dictionary.

    ie
    scuba is really self-contained underwater breathing aparratus.
    and
    seo is really search engine optimization

    and so on.

    cure is not cute underwater raft elephant

    (or something)

    LOL (that's another one isn't it;-)). OK, I got it. I thought I could use it a little bit beyond it's basic idea, like replacing a certain word like e.g. the word 'cure' to 'the cure' to increase the keyword relevance. Now I understood that this is not the intention of the acronyom expansion and will think of real acronyoms that are used on my site. Thanks for clarification!
