Yes, and suggested. The BEST thing you can do is style your vbseo URLs in the same way, or as close to the same way as possible.

When installing, you should close smf, backup, move smf files to a sub dir (or delete), then install vb to root and run the impex/upgrade process in root so that is where it will be. You will have a bit of down time, but it's the best way.

yes i had an small idea on how to do that, im still planing actually, but my main concern is the fact that:
im using pretty urls, and i was told that i need to run the reverter package i can not "detele" my working smf but since i have this forum on the root of the site and i also want vb on this root i have not figured how to do it or if there is any workaround

You can't have 2 fourms on at one time in the same place. it simply won't work. too many similar named files (index.php for example)
If you match your SMF url style to vbseo, you won't need to run the reverter at all.

sorry but i dont understand what you meant with that.
are you sure that i dont need the reverter to be able to keep the same "pretty URLs" working with vb? and that i can "move" the smf directory outside the htdocs ?

this URLs issue is my main concern with the migration

I mean chose a re-write setting that matches your current URLs.

    ie, site.com/forum-name/
on smf can be the exact same on vbseo.

Thus, no redirect or any 404/301 lookup tool will even be required.

Things with ID's won't sync. If you've ever deleted 1 post, 1 user, 1 thread, 1 forum, there's a hole, and the auto_increment will fill that hole. That's where our tool comes into play, specifically on thread urls. It will attempt to find and 301 to the correct resource. But, the rules in htaccess must match your smf urls, so on these a redirect first to default smf is required.

Hi, I did not know about this tool and did my import back in Aug 2009. I have noticed a big drop since doing this and would love any help. I imported to VB3 from Phorum - Phorum

When I do visit old Phorum links I get a blank "Page Not Found" and I've been trying to fix this by itself and just have a catch all page redirect to the new forums homepage for everything under /forums ... unfortunately I haven't been able to get this to work for me in the forums .htaccess file.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Hello,

I have a little problem. In december I changed from SMF to vB, without any problem. With this tool (vb301.php), all the previous SMF links goes to the new vB links. Now, I've purchased vBSEO, and I've instaled it. It works fine, but my problem is with the old SMF links. Now, they pointed to the index forum, without CSS styles. An example:

    This is what I had:
    - Old SMF link: ForoCompeticion
    - With vb301.php, the link pointed correctly to vB: Ford Fiesta MK1 - ForoCompeticion

Now, with vBSEO, the new link in vB is Ford Fiesta MK1 - ForoCompeticion. But the vb301.php is now point to the old ForoCompeticion. The structure I've in my site is:

/ ----------------> root, main page with vBadvanced.
/.htaccess -------> original htaccess file, with the configuration for vb301.php.
/foro ------------> the forum directory, previous with SMF, now with vBadvanced.
/foro/.htaccess --> (NEW) htaccess file, inside forum directory, from vBSEO.
/foro/vbseo ------> (NEW) instalation of vBSEO.

I've tried edit both htaccess files, but all my tests had failed. Anybody have an idea?

    Thanks and regards!

For the given smf rewrite rule,

    RewriteCond %{QUERY_STRING} board=([0-9]+)
    RewriteRule index\.php vbseo301.php?action=forum&oldid=%1 [L]

    RewriteCond %{QUERY_STRING} topic=([0-9]+)
    RewriteRule index\.php vbseo301.php?action=thread&oldid=%1 [L]

    RewriteCond %{QUERY_STRING} .msg([0-9]+)
    RewriteRule index\.php vbseo301.php?action=post&oldid=%1 [L]

    RewriteCond %{QUERY_STRING} action=profile;u=([0-9]+)
    RewriteRule index\.php vbseo301.php?action=user&oldid=%1 [L]
    it works for
    www.smf-url.com/index.php?board=111.0
    www.smf-url.com/index.php?topic=111.0
    www.smf-url.com/index.php?topic=111.0.msg222.0

Can anyone help me how can i add more rules to also include the following redirect.

    www.smf-url.com/index.php/board,111.0.html
    www.smf-url.com/index.php/topic,111.0.html
    www.smf-url.com/index.php/topic,111.msg222.html

    thanks.

    Hello,

    Please try:

    RewriteCond %{QUERY_STRING} board,([0-9\.]+)\.html
    RewriteRule index\.php vbseo301.php?action=forum&oldid=%1 [L]

    RewriteCond %{QUERY_STRING} topic,([0-9\.]+)\.html
    RewriteRule index\.php vbseo301.php?action=thread&oldid=%1 [L]

    RewriteCond %{QUERY_STRING} topic,[0-9\.?]+\.msg([0-9]+)\.html
    RewriteRule index\.php vbseo301.php?action=post&oldid=%1 [L]

    I think it should work.

Can I get the rewrite rules for a vBulletin to vBulletin forum (both with content)?

    Example:

Interview with Tue Madsen! - Pro Audio Forums - ProAudioShack.com

    would rewrite to:

Interview with Tue Madsen! - Home Theater Forum and Systems - HomeTheaterShack.com

Also... if there is anything else I need to do other than edit the vbseo301.php file in the first post.

    Thanks!

    Hello Sonnie,

That RewriteRule's set in your old domain folder root .htaccess file should work (right after RewriteEngine On line):

    Code:
    # Threads URLs
    RewriteRule ^[^/]+/([0-9]+)-.*\.html$ http://www.hometheatershack.com/forums/vbseo301.php?action=thread&oldid=$1 [L,R=301]

    # Forums URLs
    RewriteRule ^([0-9]+)-.*$ http://www.hometheatershack.com/forums/vbseo301.php?action=forum&oldid=$1 [L,R=301]

    # Members URLs
    RewriteRule ^[members-].+-([0-9]+)/$ http://www.hometheatershack.com/forums/vbseo301.php?action=user&oldid=$1 [L,R=301]
If you configured properly your vbseo301.php file.
