Question about Google AdSense Section Targeting

Maybe I am a bit confused, but I have this option enabled on a vB 3.8.5 install. Is this automatic or do I need to be adding tags as well? I have seen a few posts here that refer to adding tags around content that they feel will help generate more relevant Adsense Ads. Is that something something I should be doing in conjunction with enabling Section Targeting or something that is already being done?

Also, does is adsense affected by RR? I have just enabled RR, hoping it would help generate more relevant adsense ads and it would seem that it is not making much difference at all.

Enabling the options does it automatically. RR's can offer a little bit of help in getting better adds, but they won't do much.

So, if I have it enabled and I am still not getting very relevant ads... I am just toast. :(

Your content may need work, or your host may be blocking the mediapartners bot (adsense bot), or there's simply not much for advertisers in your niche. It could be 100's of things.

Adsense certainly doesn't perform well in all areas. In fact, it's one of the worst paying, period. But, it does have ease of use and variety in it that makes it popular and profitable.

Selling ads directly will always be your best way to make money. Set up a media kit and start probing and cold calling.

What do you mean by worst paying? For some niches maybe,
but in the vast majority for Ad Networks Adsense is by far the best paying.
You wont get near the earnings from Adsense with any other Ad network in most cases.

Selling Ad Inventory directly can bring in higher prices but
    a) it involves much work
    b) your site needs to be very interesting for advertisers
    c) it is very hard to always have your inventory fully sold

So Adsense is a great fall back option if your inventory is not fully sold.
