    Now Scared of Using Adsense!

I posted this on vbulletin.org, but I think they might have thought I was joking!

To cut a long story short, I added an adsense banner to the header and footer of my forums, and all was going great for a few few hours, and then, just before I was going to bed, I got a PM from a mod on my forums asking what the gay adverts were all about.

Sure enough, there they were, full banner ads with naked men on them, the adverts were for some kind of gay magazine, but in my panic to get rid of them, I didnt check what site they were for, and that brings me on to my first question.....

My site doesnt have any adult content, and has a large proportion of younger readers and is a PC help/overclocking forum, so, obviously, I dont want adult type ads. I realise that I can block some sites from advertising using the adsense filter thing, but I would rather block those kind of ads before they get onto my site - can it be done?

I have been trying CJ, but not made a penny in weeks, so would aprreciate some advice on how to fix adsense

P.S. I emailed google and got an auto reply saying they were too busy to help me

    Thanks for reading

I wasn't aware that Google allowed nudity in their advertisements.

Maybe the main keyword in your domain has some related meaning in that genre?

find the domains and block them.

also, report the ad to adsense. they don't even allow provactive ads.

Well, I'm guessing that the google bots got the wrong end of the stick - so to speak, with these two threads.

Asus Maximus Formula SE X38 - Living Review.
    Gigabyte GA X38 DQ6 Blog

I mean, if you look close enough, you **could** make something vaguely "gay" from those titles, but to do that, wouldnt the google bot have to just take random letters, or pairs of letters and add them to others to make it match something else?...seems a bit of an odd way of doing things.

I will try adsense again tomorrow, and keep an eye on it

    Thanks.

Have you tried our Relevant Phrases feature. You could use that in combination with AdSense targetting tags to boost the relevancy of your ads.

However - any thread titles that cause confusion *might* still occur. You would think Google would gather a sense of your sitewide theme though and prevent that type of ad from showing.

I tried to report the ads to google, but they said

" Thanks for contacting Google AdSense.

I'm surprised that I can't ban certain subjects so they dont appear on my site to begin with.

I havent seen that feature yet, however I will have a look at it tomorrow. I daren't load up any adsense ads tonight, I just know there will be something sinister and moderately embarrassing waiting for me when I get up tomorrow

    Thanks for the help Joe

    Dave.

I'm not entirely sure what you mean by that. Are you saying that I should expect gay adverts on a PC help forum?

I did report it to them, and I posted their response above.

Finally plucked up the courage to put some adsense adverts back on, and this is what the google bots seem to think I need....in a PC help forum

    and then.........

http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f1...t-the-hell.gif (left this one as a link)

    I am cursed aren't I?

I was looking round the forums that I have, and most of them were fine, with content that was almost correct, but the General Chat forum was the one that has the gay ads, and in the footer, I had some text ads, and they were ok, until I removed the gay ad, and then they turned into gay text ads.

I just thought I would share that with you, maybe make someone smile. I'm off to the adsense forums to see what I can do.

Do you have our AdSense targeting feature enabled? Try toggling it on/off and see if it makes a difference.

    Thanks for the reply Joe.

Unfortunately, even with the setting switched on and off, I still get ads that are nothing really to do with the forums.

I just enabled the vbseo setting and the banner for the main index was "get a greater body this winter!" and pics of some women doing aerobics!

The general-chat forum seemed to be the one most affected by the gay ads, so I renamed it to general stuff! (as some of the ads were gay chat), and now we seem to have computer related ads in genral stuff!.

It seems to be the banner ads that are the problem. I will change to all text ads and see if that helps.

    Thanks
