Standard IAB banners (Medium Rectangle, Skyscraper, Superbanner) do have a far better placement cpm than the other banners like the Large Rectangle. With the new ad marketplaces that bid within adsense their placement cpm can even increase.
There are advices that you should put the IAB banners where users would not click that often to get the "placement cpm" and put the big alternative Large Rectangle on the click intensive places.
