    That's worth a shot...

Didn't do me any good when someone generated thousands of invalid clicks on my site. Coincidentally, it was soon after I started using vBSEO beta..and releasing a couple of styles (both with linkbacks in the footer).

I caught it a couple of days later but it was too late. :(

Well, they never said they realise it wasn't me.

Invalid clicks are invalid clicks, and they wont reveal how they determined they were invalid (or the IP addy or any other info) as it would give other people more ways to break their alogrithm.

I was away visiting my dad in hospital for a couple of days, I only found out about it when I got back home.

I believe you can actually request the IP logs for your particular account, but thats only if the Google support team can be bothered to get off their lazy ass and do so.

Yahoo does, in beta, but their ads (for my content anyway) are really lacking.

There must be a way to communicate with Google to get this issue resolved. Any feedback you have would greatly help Jon re-monetize his forum.

I would imagine that this type of penalty could be fairly common. Do competing websites attempt to sabotage one another by generating false clicks?

Yes, it is, and they usually do intensive investigation before just shutting an Adsense account down.

Which is really sad. Also, if you run someone else's ads on your site, they get banned too.

My partner had an adsense account. She allowed me to put her adsense on my site. She got an email about a week later telling her that her account was disabled due to it being 'related to an account disabled due to invalid clicks.'

Wow - they are tough. But, I guess they have to be in order to maintain the trust of the advertisers.
