    Black listing low paying ads

Although I've yet to see this work (have just added it to my adsense account and it'll take 12 hours to take effect), it is meant to boost your adsense income by taking out all the made for adsense sites, etc.

Try it for yourself and see how you go:

while sounding good in principal, it doesn't work.

    why?

google serves the highest paying ads first. They make more off them too.
if you black list low-paying ads, you get even LOWER paying ads instead of the LOW ads, or worse, PSA's.

No, not neccessarily. Google doesn't always show the highest ads for your page. If it did this then everyone who made a page about Mesothelioma would get $10 a click from every ad. They mix the ads up and put some of the lower paying ads in to stop click fraud. Why would someone click their own ads if there's a chance that they only get 1c per click?

    That's not true either.

the $10 clicks (which don't exist anymore...) only last until the budget per day of that particular advertiser is exhausted. Across the 100,000 meso sites out there, that may be 5 minuets. then, it goes to the next highest paying.

    I see this daily.

at 3 and 4 am (just after adesnse resets), my rpc is around 50-60 cents, but by days end, i'm down to about 18-22 cent rpc... meaning it starts at 50+ and ends around 4-6 cents at 2:30 am (estern time)

And, no one should be clicking their own ads. That's how you get banned.

Well, we'll see if I brings up my adsense $$

I can't find anything on the net that support either of our theories, mainly because anytime I search for anything with "highest paying adsense ads" in it I get heaps of crap sites with lists of keywords that pay the best

they have to serve MFA 0.01$ ads somewhere, those ads are always-always more catchy than the high paying ads on the same page/site and attract more clicks.
so its better to blacklist low paying ads.

no, they don't have to serve ANYTHING. if you want your ad to show, you need to out-bid your competition.... or, at least outbid them once their daily budget is exhausted.

I ran an adwords (not adsense) campaign, topped my budget to 20 cents a click, and max of $5 a day and i was getting 1 impression a day.
I upped it to 30 cents, and got 5 impressions that day.
I upped it to $1, and killed my daily budget in 20 minutes.

its 7am here now, and i've been up all night coding....

at 330 am eastern, i had 60 cent rpc. at 430 it was 52. i lost track of the next couple hours, but its down to 18 right now.

its the end of the month and my earnings ALWAYS take a hit the last 5-7 days of the month. i averaged yesterday at 12 cent rpc. 2 weeks ago, my daily average was hovering in the 20-25 cent range.

i'm telling you guys, this is how it works.
you don't need to find an article on it. WATCH your stats close from reset till end of day. refresh every 15 min. make an excel sheet. you'll see the exact same trend.

unless, all 6 of my sites are unique for some reason.... which is very unlikely at best.

it could very well be that the majority of your niche is made up of spam ads... but with only 100 possible black list options, you'll never get 1/2 of them...

Can I add my 2 cents?

I've heard people say that they've advertised for a whole year a certain product on their site that was not a match to the content of the site and made a very little amount of money.

Then this webmaster switched to adsense and started making some serious money, because those ads were related to the topic on his site.

You can filter your site all you want to have MESOTHELIOMA or CAR INSURANCE ads show up, but no one is going to click them, because they don't ring the bell for your visitors.

However, if your site is about mesothelioma, then you'll get some visits from search engine traffic and might get some clicks, but that's not guaranteed.

The search volume for mesothelioma is very low, that is why they are willing to pay that much money, so that when someone is searching, they want to have that customer, because they are rare.

You should stick to something that is popular or that is related to your site and don't try to filter anyone unless they don't match your content. What I do recommend though is turning off ADVERTISE ON THIS SITE.

black listing "low paying ads" is a waste of time. That said, black listing stupid ads, regardless of what they pay per click, can be a very good idea.

When you see stupid ads on your site, and I will give a couple examples for my ATV forum:

    exhaust ringtone
    atv ringtone
    meet atv singles

Crap like that, I will block the source in a heartbeat. Even if they are paying top dollar for their ads to show up, who in their right mind is going to follow that mess? I would rather knock them out of the way for lower paying ads that are truly related to my site and a value to the visitor once they decide to exit my site.
