Adsense in archives and RSS

I have read a little on pple putting adsense in there Archive pages, what template do I find for this, and is this a good idea?
I allso had a go at using Feedburner to insert Adsense into my RSS feeds ,but I couldnt work out were to place the code, there were so many variations of code to select.

If any one could shine some light onto the matter that would be great.

You have to manually edit the archive.php file to insert adsense as its not template driven. There are a couple hacks over at vb.org which will automatically do it for you as well, search for something like "Adsense Archive" and see what it returns.

I'd highly suggest against both of these.

A) turn the archives off (or at least re-direct them to the main content)
B) leave RSS alone. you won't get any clicks through it, as most people using the feeds simply load them in a reader or a firefox tab. All it will do is lower your CTR, and thus you'll get smart priced a little bit making your real ad clicks worth less.
Plus, it makes feed readers have a hard time with parsing them, if at all.

I prefer this vBSEO option:

Quote:
Rewrite + 301 Redirect Archive Pages
This is a combination of options 1 and 2 (above). This option rewrites URLs so that original content is linked from within the archives AND also adds 301 redirects to the archive thread pages. Therefore, (a) it works as a sitemap for the static site and (b) it ensures that incoming links pointing to the old archive thread pages are redirected to the new, static pages also.

Thats the option I use as well. My archives don't see to much traffic, but for some reason I've noticed lately when things first get indexed, its been the Archive, then it goes to the non-archive version

also, the CTR on archive is better than on the forum. Atleast i notice so. My archive gets 10 % of the impression that my forum has and yet it makes me more money thru adsense than from the forum .

I bet it also has a much higher bounce rate, lower conversion to member, lower stickiness or avg. pages read per visit, as well.

Interesting dilemma. However, I think that the key take away should be that forum admins should focus on more lightweight forum templates. It does not have to be boring, or as plain as the barely there archive pages, but it should be straightforward, usable, well structured, with a good navigational structure, and perhaps a little digital feng shui.
