Whats best for everyone else may not be the best for you. Try the 300x250 for a week and see if earnings stay high or if they drop.
I use them on my site, and don't notice any difference, but i don't really earn that much a day right now to begin with.
I just switched to 300x250 about a week ago and noticed a little difference. The price of a click is more then the other ad format's i used. Of course if my traffic improves a lot more, i'll see a big difference.
Experiment with the size's and location on your site to see what works best. Like mentioned earlier, what works for some people, may not work for you.
i use both. some media fills 336, others 300
How do you have them formatted, brian? You're pretty much the adsense master, so I tend to stalk your posts for tips.
Right now I have 300x250 on the left, with a 300x250 CJ ad on the right, the adsense block is my highest earner.
what you think about 3 banners 300x250 under navbar ??
like UnderLinux Fóruns
I swapped from 336x280 to 300x250 almost 2 weeks ago and have not noticed any change.

It's a toss-up. I dropped the two big ad blocks at the top, along with a sidebar on ever page. The sidebar performed really well, my #2 overall for the two days I did it but - my site just looked like an ad-laden cesspool to guests.
I think there's a fine line between advertising that works, and advertising that works at the expense of the overall design. It's just a hard balance to find. I'm running this setup right now:
With the sidebar on forumhome only, instead of in FH, showpost, showthread, and everywhere else. It's about 25% less revenue, but at the end of the day when I check my site as a guest, I don't hate looking at it.
.2c
It looks pretty good (your template).
Do you think that you might be more particular about the aesthetics than your guests may be? 25% is a lot of revenue to lose.
I would recommend trying to *maximize revenue* (of course), but only provided that anything you do does not cause a decline in any other important stats.
For instance, if you can put those adds back to keep your revenue at 100% capacity, and your hits and member conversions continue to grow at (or in excessive of) your 75% level (with the latest ad setup), you should probably keep the extra ads.
With my current revenue, not really. If I was pulling in $10-25 a day, absolutely. Heck, I'd leave the extra ads up if it even came close to covering the cost of hosting.
I tried to split the difference as best I could. There's defintiely a hit taken by not having the sidebar in showpost, but I tried to split the difference by putting a small ad in/under the first post, like this:
That way I still end up with 3 ad units and one link unit per page, and I don't cringe whever I think about the sidebar. I just did this today so I'll try and report back with how it works out.
During startup periods of low revenue, I agree with your decision to sacrifice a small portion of revenue to focus on building your membership base, including not only conversions, but also active participation in a user friendly and aesthetically pleasing environment.![]()
I run 2 different versions of ads, one for guests, one for members
for my members:
left side:
1st tier: adsdaq cpm 336 or 300 (they fill both with one ad tag)
2nd tier: tribal fusion cpm, 336/300
3rd tier: adsense
right side: 10 most active threads in last 24 hours
guests:
left side: adsense
right side: same as members tiers
+ value click pop up once per 24 hours, and knotera inline ads
footer for both, i run a shopping ads campaign
and top right for both, i run in-house 468 ads sold monthly flat rate to 'real' advertisers
When I say that, I'm not complaining; I still make a couple of grand a month. Having said that I have changed back to 336x280 after thinking about this post.
I have:-
guest {
two 336x280 boxes under the navbar.
one 728x90 under the last post.
one 728x90 at the bottom of the frontpage (which I'm gettting rid of).
}
members {
one 728x90 under the navbar.
one 728x90 at the bottom of the frontpage (getting rid of).
}
Seems to work fine for me.
