Buying another forums domain name

Hello All,

I just want to check in and see what you think about this. I just noticed that one of the big guys in one of my forums niche only owns the .com version of their domain.

Its not trade marked from what I can tell, but I ‘m not sure how I would benefit if I were to buy the .net/.org.

What do you think? Should I buy the domains and what can I use them for?

You have to be careful about trademarking issues. However, it's possible you could generate page 1 traffic for their brand name if you put up a 1-5 page site with content about the niche (and including the brand name).

Keep in mind, they can take them from you if they want. It's yet to be beaten in US court.

If they have an affiliate program, it could be a gold mine for you. Some simple splash pages is all you would need.

Well its another forum and i would love to get there members, but I dont think i can redirect to my site or members of both community's would hate me. So i'm stuck thinking what to do.

I don't think there is a trade mark issue is the domain is say something like, running forum . com and i own great running forum .com/net/org. But i can reg running forum .net and .org.

I'm not sure what I am thinking, but atleast i'm still thinking on ways to beat the other guys and get some traffic, members, ->$

buy them, park them on sedo. make some money. they might eventually offer to buy them from you

Thanks Brian, I have never used Sedo before I will look into using them. Right now I just leave domains parked at godaddy.

Sedo if free and i might make a little money, why not try them.

I just went and put 10 domains on sedo parking. Brian have you made any money on parking? I just had these parked at godaddy doing nothing. Some of them were the .org and .net of my forums.

I think the same way. So many great names are being parked and are lost for the serious web developers. I hate that

I'm using adsense for domains, so far it's been much better than sedo, godaddy and few others. too bad they dont accept adult domain names
