Didn't read the article yet but Danny could be one of the industry's rockstars. Danny is certainly the most mainstream SEO rockstar. He's the one who will be quoted in major media outlets when there's a story that touches on seo. But he's not the ones who come to mind 1st:

Todd (aka oilman) is more the rockstar to the cult of seo followers. His "fame" comes more from being in the trenches and recognized by peers as being at the top of the game. Over the past few years, he's been more likely to be a speaker at seo/affiliate gatherings and his show is a great listen.

There's probably about 10-20 others that would qualify for seo rockstar status. Some are the guys that link their blogs to each other so follow Todd's blogroll (and then follow their blogrolls) to find the movers and shakers in SEO.

Finally, while he's in a different category, Matt Cutts is the ultimate seo rockstar. I've been around Matt alot at conventions over the past 5 years and there is NEVER a time when the groupies aren't swarming to him. The 1st time that really hit me was at a Pubcon a few years ago. On the way to a certain session, I cut thru the supposedly empty hall used for our lunch. I noticed a tightly packed group of about 50 people. They seemed to be really crammed in toegther. Matt had tried to sit down for a late lunch and it turned into one of his little 45 minute personal Q&A sessions.

Now that's a rockstar

I agree that Danny was the Rockstar. Even if somebody denies then mere posts saying that he was rockstar will prove him that he is wrong and Danny is indeed boss of all.
