AdWords Relevance for Better Clickthroughs - Inside Adwords Crew

Why Adwords Must Be Relevant - Duh

The "Inside Adwords" crew is trying to help newbie AdWords advertisers learn how to boost clickthroughs via creating more relevant ads.

While this might inspire a "duh" moment - it's important to note that AdSense relevance will work the same way:

The greater the relevance of your ads, the higher clickthrough rate you will achieve.

For forums that rely solely on revenues generated from ad revenue, any method of improving "ad relevance" should be undertaken.

But (with AdSense) you are NOT writing the ads! So you have to let Google do their job. For your part, you need to make your content better equipped to pull in such relevant ads.

Google Adsense section targeting tags are one way to do so:

Notes on vBSEO:
  • vBSEO includes an "AdSense Section Targeting" feature that automatically places Google AdSense section tags in relevant locations of your pages such as forumhome, forumdisplay, and showthread.
  • Some forum members have reported that "changes" in ads often create higher temporary clickthrough rates. If the style, location, or ad relevance changes - a temporary increase in clickthroughs might be experienced. We still have to collect more data to analyze this effect.
For Discussion:
  • Do you use AdWords to promote your site as an alternative form of marketing? How does it compare to the traffic generated by your organic search results?
  • Have you discovered any special techniques to boost your AdSense revenue on your forum or website?
  • Do you use an ad network other than Google AdSense? What has been your experience? What are your recommendations for other forum admins?

Re: AdWords Relevance for Better Clickthroughs - Inside Adwords Crew

Our adsense income has improved after we went for vBSEO. Hard to say exactly how much, but it has been noticeable. Our forums used to be only a small part of our site's profits, now it is almost 35-40% of the total.

We had a small 468x60 banner in the header and a leaderboard below the header. We got extremely good click rates for the header, but few clicks. We are experimenting with removing the header ads to see if it improves the clickrate of the leaderboard. So far it looks promising.

We recommend Casale Media. They are great to work with and pay well even as a secondary network.
