Set and Forget Settings Enhancement

I never went in and changed my Set and Forget settings to keep my Google PR's intact. (Actually, I am afraid to) I went over them pretty good, and I am sure the settings are working very well to my satisfaction. You have a very good product here, and when I create another forum, I will buy another vBSEO for that forum as well. One thing I do not like is if I went in and checked out my old settings in the Set and Forget part, I will lose all my Page Rankings. All I would want to do is go in and see how I set them for doing another future forum. However, I know I would lose my Page Rankings as a result.

Why not work with Google and the other indexing engines on this. It is too bad we lose just looking over and maybe adjusting a couple of settings. I know you may tell me the Page Rankings will come back in months, but, I feel that is not good enough. That is like waiting 3 months to see if you improved Page Rankings, and then to put the settings back or make another change, then more SE downtime would occur in essence. This could be an ongoing downtime just to get the settings working properly.

I know you can save settings, and I am too chicken to go in and look around and lose my PR's, and then put the saved setings back in only to find my PR's are still gone.

If this has been discussed over and over, my apologies. I am sort of new to vBSEO and administrating forums in general. But, since this is for Feature Requests, okay, make something of a Feature out of this, to keep older "pages", posts and threads remain with the old vBSEO settings, and the newer "pages", posts and threads utilize the newer settings. If there is any PR improvements with different settings, you could then institute that for the whole forum and then those older pages can be reindexed with the new settings.

Since I am a programmer, I can see this working out if you work on it.

Mark,

You can use the XML export (right by the license on the top right) to save your settings, and then upload to the new forum.

that said, just don't click SAVE.

you can browse around and change everything... nothing happens unitl you click a save button. Just X-out of the window when you're done.

Thanks briansol, makes a lot of sense. Good Advice !!

Still doesn't let someone experiment with different settings to try and see if similar threads can get a better PR. That is why I placed this post in the Feature Requests. I am not being too nit-picky, I just like to experiment, and would hope to do so with this vBulletin add-on module as well. One thing is to do is maybe rename this settings area "Set It And Leave It Alone". LOL

Hi Mark - when you change your URLs, the visible toolbar PageRank is going to disappear. However, that does not mean the page is going to lose all link value and ranking. When the 301 redirections occur, Google will assign previous link value to the new location.

Most people will tell you not to focus much (or at all) on visible Google Toolbar rankings. However, we do anticipate link value (including visible toolbar PR) to improve on many of your pages after installing vBSEO.

However, to take advantage, you do have to choose 1 setting and stick with it.

Remember, you can always use our demo to experiment with the different settings:
