    One-Page-Popup for high-ranked off-topic sites

    Hi everybody,

    usually I wanted to make it a bid on RAC, but I think this theme could be very interesting for the whole vBseo, so I post it here for all.

    As many of you I have a forum. And there I have lots of different keywords, that users come in. Not all of them connect to the theme of my site, but what the hell ... a forum is there to get many different themes.

    In the moment I am top-ranked on a key called "useless wisdom". Itīs a popular word in germany, it has got nothing to do with my site-topic, somebody posted it as smalltalk and since half a year I am getting high traffic with no sense for me ... nearly no one of the users stays on the site.

    After now this key brings more traffic then my original key I thought about how to use it. And here is my strategy:

    Could vBseo give a strategy to have a popup only on one special thread/post? This would make very much sense to me, because I could try to "build a bridge" from the key, the users searched for, to the topic of my site. I want to catch them, the best for is a popup, but I see no chance in the moment to have a popup only for one of the threads.

    In fact, in the long-run, vBseo could analyze what the high-ranking keys are, like a list: Which are the keys, that bring the most visitors and which are the sites, the visitors are brought to. And every time, when it is an "outsider", lets define a little text and a little link, which is shown in a popup for that special thread.

    Clear, waht I mean? Here an example:

    You have a site for cars. And a forum for cars. And you talk about lots of cars. Thatīs it, thatīs great.

    Now somebody tells a joke about a teacher. Nothing dramatic, just a joke. And Google ranks it. You donīt see it yet, but Google ranks it better and better. And more and more visitors are comming to your site, searching for some "teacher"-keys.

    When vBseo tracks the "incomming keys", it should have like an alarm: There is one "shooting-star" in the keys. The key "teacher" raised more then xx% in the last 7 days / 4 Weeks / whatever, so vBseo gives a note: There is a new key. This is the first great information of that feature. Seeing "new keys" comming.

    Now I want to be able to use that key. What I got to do is to "build a bridge" from "Teacher" to "Car". Letīs say, I write "Statistics about the cars teachers drive" and link it to my homepage. So I can catch the users, comming for "teacher" and bring them over to "cars".

    This text I save i vBseo and activate it for the thread, which ranks high for "teacher". Then, next time, when a user comes from google because searching for "teacher" on that thread, he will get the popup and I have a chance to catch him for "cars" and guide him into my website.

    So the popups musst be thread-specific. My suggestion would be a "template" for the popup, also flash-possibilities, and it must be possible to "activate" it in one or more threads, but keep out of all other sites, because none of the other sites really are connected to "teacher". The popup should only appear on that one thread.

    However, I gues you all have tons of traffic from "wrong keywords" and this could be a good chance to get longer visits and to get new users. In fact, itīs not "Search optimizing" but itīs "traffic-optimizing, and I think it fits good into vBseo. What do you think?

    Best wishes, Julian!

    I don't like the popupstuff, sorry ^^
    But I like the idea about analyzing about keywords and stuff.
    That would be great for sure, if vbSEO would make stats about what keywords link to what thread, file, etc.

    I agree on that, and I just havenīt thought about other possibilities bevore.

    But why not:
    Adding a little note like a "post before the first post" which can be filled with content, would that make sense?

    The goal for me is not to put a popup there, the goal for me is to insert some content in the moment, a user runs into my site and expects a different key, that my site is mainly placed.

    In my personal example: I see thousands of users comming through the key "useless wisdom" and running away again and I thought a lot of times about just changing the first post.

    Thatīs not a good solution: Changing somebody elses post. But that is the result I want to have: Being able to talk to them. Popup, Content or redirect ... this might be the trhee things to do. ;-)

    Best wishes, J ulian!

    just add this to yoru show thread template:

    <if condition="THIS_SCRIPT=='showthread'">
    <if condition="$threadinfo[threadid] == 'XXXXX'">

    pop up code

    </if>
    </if>

    where XXXX is the thread ID

    Good Idea. But it would be more smooth packed in a hack with the "shooting-star"-key-statistics. And with a management like "show here ...".

    If this is not interesting for vBseo I would post it in vb.org, possibly somebody wants to make a hack out of it.

    Best wishes, Julian!
