| Keyword tracker on registration
I've been looking for a modification that tracks which keywords result in a registration at my forum for a while, but I have been unable to find one. People visit my forum via a search engines, read a thread, and then register at my forum all the time. Finding which keywords are popular is easy. Finding which keywords result in a registration or long-time member is hard if not impossible at the moment. The main goal of my SEO efforts is to generate more active forum members. At the moment I go for a "shotgun approach" when targeting keywords, targeting the most popular keywords hoping that there is a correlation between popularity and registrations. We all should know that some keywords are popular, but nothing long-term comes from them (the thought of quality keywords). Quality keywords really can only be found through experience right now. In short, I am looking for a modification which will show which keywords result in a registration. Keywords that result in more registrations are more useful than keywords that get a lot of searches to me. This probably would be best as a separate modification and to me it seems like a big task, but it would be a great thing to have for at least a few webmasters such as myself. All the vBSEO products are simply the best, so I thought it would be best to ask here before anywhere else. |

Google's Adwords advertising has built in Conversion Tracking support. Do you use that?

No, I do not have any ads at all on my website. I also am assuming that Google would track who finds your forum and clicks on the ads, not who finds your forum and registers. That's not what I would like.

No, the ads are shown on other sites and in Google search results, and bring people to your site. No ads would be running on your site itself. (That would be a separate service, Adsense.)

I filter all ads and am against them very much. Paying for a service like that would go against my beliefs. I also don't know how that is related much at all to what I suggested (makes me think that you work for Google). Yes, it will bring people to my website, but in my experience those who click on ads aren't usually quality community members. I doubt that Google tracks who clicks on my site in ads and then registers too. Thanks for the suggestion, but that's not at all what I am looking for.

With the conversion tracking, it would indeed track who registered on your site. But, if you don't want to use ads, you can use Google Analytics to track it also. And vbSEO (2.2.2+) has built-in support to add the analytics code to your pages. Analytics info: Google Analytics - New Free Tool! (And yes, I get quite a few members from the Google Ads I run. It's just like any other advertising. It lets people know about your site.)

Hello Ben, We thought this would be a nice addition to our tool set as well. We'll be releasing a plugin that tracks keywords that result in a visit. Shortly, we'll start refining the reports with other information such as which visits result in a registration, etc. etc. Thank you for the suggestion! ps- feel free to suggest possible enhancements once released.

Sounds great! I can't wait for this plugin. I've also applied for a Google Analytics account, but am yet to receive information about it (they said they will inform me when have more openings available). I'd also rather not let my statistics be available to someone who doesn't need them. I was very wary of Google Analytics when they first came out because it seems like they have other motives, though most everything they do can be stretched to think that. |
