    can this be done

Instead of uploading and saving backup settings from comp after every update, how about having the files on server some place which vbseo checks for.
that way the delay uploading settings and some hassles is minimized.

    1) you can save the file in pass protected folder
    2) also mantain backups of settings based on some frequency,, eg 2 days or something, deleting old backups based on user criteria. this will mean easy revert to old versions/settings if needed. Actually full version revert would be nice also. if that can be done. But yeah settings backups will help if some settings go corrupt.
    3) new settings can be saved by vbseo directly on server.
    4) still keep option to download them for locl backup

    advantages are
    a) very easy upgrade.. upload files and you are done
    b) well don't laugh but it will help users who forget to save settings... i have done in once.. uploaded the files and then found i didn't save settings.. luckily the recycle bin saved me..

    thts please

**Theory** The vBSEO team will need to verify.

Technically, you should be able to just skip uploading the config_vbseo.php file and your old settings will still be there. Any new options added in the new release will probably have a default value set in the vBSEO application, and those will be saved to the config the next time you change options and save.

    that would help too..
only ting i tht there was if the file format changes.. in xml its easier to change i guess.

plus you have the advantage of saving backups that way on server in case things go wrong.

just read the pre-release announcement and think this is in wrong forum now

anyway a revert of version option would be cool though
i remember in vb 3.0x days geek article had a auto installer which saved the files to backup location and you could just move them back if you wanted to revert.

Again yes you can upload but server would be better atleast for settings.

SURPRISE! - Thank you guys for the suggestions

The upgrade process has been streamlined and will not require to backup/restore your settings when upgrading. More details to come in the release announcement

I am betting we will be having a 2.3.3 update available very soon.

I know this because I just decided to go ahead an upgrade from 2.3.1 to 2.3.2 today and I know vbseo doesnt want me to ever be up to date.

Can we stop speaking in third person now? From what i can see from running 2.3.3 there isnt many issues which we have uncovered that havent been fixed in between versions 2.3.3a-c and should be ready for public release soon. And the news of the streamlined upgrade process is fantastic
