Better intergration with your Sig plugin

This is a discussion on Better intergration with your Sig plugin within the vBSEO Features Archive forums, part of the vBulletin Links & Resources category; I know it's 2 different products but I'd love it if you guys would integrate your signiture plug in more ...

Better intergration with your Sig plugin

I know it's 2 different products but I'd love it if you guys would integrate your signiture plug in more tightly with vbSEO

Here is what would essentially be great if this was incorporated into vbSEO

    Better sig control

    1. Signiture length, number of links in sigs (would love it to limit it to just 2 or 3 automatically)
    2. An affiliate BB tag some forum users use affiliate links they are not really there to be indexed but to get other users to click on them & sign up for services. An affilaite BB tag would be great. This would have a no follow tag placed on it automatically. Instead of [ URL ] it would be [ AFF ]
    3. All links inside of POSTS, calendar etc. have nofollow tags I think currently that the system tries to put nofollow tags on everything (including templates). The only things users can change should have nofollow & the main thing would be to not conflict with signiture rules.

    Just my 2 cents guys....

If the system was already updated I apologize for posting this...

    1. I think that these features are being implemented directly into vBulletin with the advent of 3.6.

    2. I am too sure if whether or not this work well in action, users will still have the option to post their affiliate links under the URL tag, rather than the AFF tag which they know will be prefixed with a rel="nofollow" tag. Besides creating custom BB code is a feature which is already implemented within vBulletin - and you could merely edit the BBCode syntax to include the nofollow tag manually.

    3. I am not too sure what you are trying to suggest here? Your stating that links inside posts, calenders and other vBulletin generated pages are being attributed a rel="nofollow" relation, do you want to make sure that these relations are not attributed to signature links?

    Good suggestions though

    Thank you for the reply.
for #3 I am suggesting make sure the vbSEO nofollow tag only goes as far as what's posted by users.

I think when I turned it on it affected sigs & perhaps my footer links... It might have been just the sigs though I forgot. It would be great for it to only go as far as user generated content...

The vBSEO product itself does add rel="nofollow" links to all external links, perhaps this option was enabled within your vBSEO Control Panel and was why all links where being prefixed with attribute.

That's my point this option was enabled.
If a site owner has 5 sites & wants to put their own links in their footer (footer links are only controled by the webmaster) why would I want vbSEO nofollow to extend all the way to my footer links?

If it has an option to put nofollow on all outgoing links. Wouldn't it be better for the option to be put nofollow on all member generated content? Minus their signitures which is sort of lke a bonus...

This is my feature request make an option to "only" put no follow on user generated content. The links in the footer the webmaster can control. But when users post links in messages you can't always control what members might post or edit later.

I actually believe that it is possible to introduce some form of HTML tag into templates for which vBSEO will ignore external links, not prefixing them with the rel="nofollow" attribute. However, i can't quite remember this tag name - i'll have a quick search

EDIT: Checkout this thread for more information on excluding the auto-nofollow insertion.

    Well I sincerely
    appreciate your following this post.
If you have to research it then you can see my point that perhaps this should be an autofeature.

My suggestion is one complete set of things. Yes you can do parts of it seperately & that will leave some things out.

It's the whole thing that's the most benefitual to us users.

    1. You turn on the nofollow tag feature on vbSEO
    2. It doesn't affect user signitures (my initial suggestions)
    3. It doesn't affect links in the template (that the webmaster wants indexed as a backlink)
    4. The nofollow tag on all outbound links should only affect user generated outbound links.

If you have to research how to do it, then most users won't benefit from it.

Think about this site. On the footer there is the Affiliate link. What if this wasn't linked anywhere else. It wouldn't benefit from the strength of the forum.
