    Better/Easier Upgrade process ?

How about a better upgrade process that doesn't force us to shut down the forums for even a few minutes? Any way we could do that and also reduce the no. of steps for upgrading will be appreciated

    Re: Better/Easier Upgrade process ?

    Step 1. Close Forums
Step 2. Download vBSEO .xml settings file
    Step 3. Import new Product
Step 4. Upload all new files
Step 5. Upload vBSEO .xml file
    Step 6. Open Forums

Not REALLY all that hard to do, surely?

It takes me all of a minute or 2. The longest part being the upload of the new files.

*edit* to add the Product import.

    Re: Better/Easier Upgrade process ?

Actually, we have considered ways of making the process even easier. There are some consistent problems that people experience (e.g. binary FTP). A lot of these will probably be cleared up once we put better documentation in place.

Closing off the forums is only done to ensure that you arent receiving any error messages from users trying to access the forums when you are uploading files, products, vB SEO data etc ... just think yourself lucky that the steps required to upgrade are much simpliar compared reletively with other similar products of this size.

    Re: Better/Easier Upgrade process ?

I never shut mine down when I upgrade. The whole process takes me about 30-60 seconds at the most.

That was from starting the download to the very finish. My stupid ISP has capped my speed back to 64. :(

54 seconds for me, starting from the time I clicked to download the .ZIP file.

    Re: Better/Easier Upgrade process ?

I have found vbseo to be a rather progressive co. Its not that the 4 mins it takes me to upgrade vbseo is too big a deal, but if it could be done without stopping the forums, then it'd be even better

The thread wasn't started to bitch, but rather to check if anything more streamlined was possible.

It can be done without stopping the forums, as I noted. I've done it every iteration without turning my forums off.
