Automatic Redirects when Thread Title changes

An item I'd love to see is auto-redirects (301's) when a thread title changes.

I sometimes change thread titles for both clarity and also SEO, unless I'm missing something, when the thread title changes, so does the url, but the old url just 404's out. If a search engine spider hasn't crawled the page yet, no big deal, but if it has you end up with indexed pages that error out. Of course you could set this up manually, but it would be a sweet feature if it was done automatically.

There is a nifty Wordpress plugin called Redirection which is really awesome, if a title changes it automatically creates a 301 redirect to the new url.

I'd love to see this implemented,

This is a built-in vBSEO functionality

As long as you include the thread ID, the link should redirect like you want

Open mouth, insert foot i"m not sure what happened the first time, but it does work like you said.

I was redirecting a forum to a new url. The forum had a previous name, which was changed, but when I checked both the old static url and the new url, only the newer url, redirected. I probably did somethign wrong, I will test it again

Edit: I just realized I only referenced the redirection with regards to threads, I also meant renaming Forum Names, which is the issue I'm having. I'd like to see Forum Name changes be handled like thread name changes.

I retested this on one of my inactive forums which I am going to forward to a new location, and I get the same 404 errors:(

If I understood the feature right the 1st link should now be forwarded to the 2nd, but it just 404's out. I tested this a couple of times with the same resulting 404 error.

I also double checked the VBSEO control panel and it appears the settings are all correct, but I guess its possible I may have overlooked something.

It's not terribly important for this particular forum, I just wanted to follow up on the issue because there is a high likelihood that I will possibly change some forum names and thread names on my new site.

Let me know what you find out, or if I am doing something wrong.

Automatic redirect for the forums is not applied as you don't have forum ID in URL. You should manually setup it in Custom Redirects option in vBSEO CP, like:

'general-online-poker-discussion/(.*)' => 'general-poker-discussion/$1'
