Allow domain change in licence downloads

Just a recommendation - currently to change the domain name a licence is associated with requires a support ticket to change.

Could you please consider allowing users to make their own changes, like with vbulletin licences - just that sometimes a domain name change can be required in a hurry, so having to wait for vbseo support just to transfer the domain the licence is associated with can be a pain.

    Just a suggestion.

This is something I will consider. We might be able to add it to our license tools available on the download page:
    http://www.vbseo.com/downloads/

The only potential issues are that:
    • We have to ensure vBSEO is removed from the previous forum, in the case of a transfer of a license from one forum to another.
    • We have to ensure the new forum (or domain name) is appropriate in consideration of our Acceptable Usage Policy.
    • Some requests are also for transfer to a new user, not just a domain update.
    • We have to ensure the license is eligible for transfer, in respect of our transfer policy.

    Thanks for the reply, Joe.

For example, my big board got wiped out yesterday - database crash lost 1.2 million posts.

I'm trying to restore a backup of the forum, but am looking to do so using a new domain - take the opportunity to implement a redevelopment and expansion as the current domain is fried.

But at present, I can't set up the forum live on the new domain until I get confirmation from vbseo of the domain change for the licence - it's still pending. That's a full day closed so far, with revenue lost, because I have to wait for vbseo staff to update the domain.

I second this suggestion, it would really be nice if we could change domain names.

I think it should be able to be done real-time, but put into a mod queue to check agains the EULA, etc.
dotcom1 to dotcom2 should be able to be done in a portal area.

I'd say 98% of changes won't be an issue. the rogue 2# can be addressed later via license suspension, or some other moderator action.

Transfers should still be handled by ticket, as you need to send to the new person anyway.

We have staff living in different parts of world and mainly we usually have a staff member online on board always. Ticket responses ( English ) are really fast and i honestly think that License Updates are handled pretty quick. Of course there can be some issues sometimes but it is very rare.

If customers can update their license it may cause problems :
    1. Sites against EULA can start using vBSEO
    2. People can try to use vBSEO on multiple site
    3. People can update their domain so often which will never cause problems on their side and they may start blaming vBSEO for that

My personal opinion is the current method should stay and it should not be updated.

Once our new anti-piracy system is unveiled, this may be an option. It's also possible that we may allow for post-review, immediate approval for multi-license holders, and pending review processing for single license holders to deal with issues related to our Acceptable Usage Policy.
