Add automatic AltText if image is missing

    Hi

I was just cheking my domain for SEO relevance and found that there were more 85% images which had no alttext in case these images do not show up and this may be quite detrimental for SEO.

Is there any option in vBSEO to automatically add alttext for images which do not have them... alt text can be any keyword defined in vbseo control panel or you could suggest any better solution to this issue.

    Thanks

vb doesn't add any alt text to any [img ] tag placed images in posts.

I like the idea, but this might be counter productive.

A default would be something like "user posted image", which adds nothing to SEO, and adds page weight (a post with 20 images will add up)

Further, changing the alt text to something the image is not is not a good idea for accesibility issues.

is "user defined image" better than "" ?

a screen reader will repeat the same thing over and over again, versus nothing at all.

    I'm not sure....

This can be replaced by a relevant keyword... idea is such that search engines do not read a webpage like it has missing alttext in image tab... these missing tags were negatively reported by Domain Tools: Whois Lookup and Domain Suggestions as well as Meta Tag Analyzer

    Perhaps something to ponder upon...

no, we're not talking about the style images.

we're talking about someone making a post like

    [ img] photobucket link [/img ]

    it ends up rendering as

    <img src ="photbucket" alt="" />

    yes, <img src ="photbucket" alt="" /> should become <img src ="photbucket" alt="my keyword" /> that would be real nice.

A single keyword can be inserted by editing includes/class_bbcode.php but a dynamic keyword ( thread title or image file name ) would be nice

I think if SEO demands that images tags should be there then it must be really important and vbseo just can not miss out on this front.

This might be really good suggestion. vBSEO may alter the alt tags with thread title and image name but on the other hand i am thinking about the perfonmance as this will require tons of replacements since there can be tons of images on each thread.

There is a BB code on VB.org that does this for user posted images. Shameless plug but helpful none the less. Alt Image Attribute BB code - SEO Images - vBulletin.org Forum
