The acronym expansion into links *could* be a feature of vBSEO 3.1.0.

As for the affiliate rewrites, there are other hacks to do that if you choose. Here's one example: Dynamically Create Amazon Links to use your associate id - vBulletin.org Forum

I disagree and here's why. Do you think anyone here installs vBSEO in their forum just so they can have some cool looking URL's? vBSEO is installed primarily because admins want traffic into their forum and they want it now. Traffic equates into revenue from ads, links, affiliates, subscriptions, downloads, and anything else the admin can manage to sell to their members.

The more useful revenue generating features vBSEO can pack into its product the more useful it will be. Don't pretend for a minute that vBulletin is not working on projects in this area and when they release something, vBSEO better have a product that is far better than anything vBulletin has come up with.

You're right, BUT I was about to write an article about the endless possibilities with vbseo and rewriting, this could have been a good sales argument this extra feature.

Very good point. Let's think about the unique selling point here

Acronym Expansion not working with URL

Taken from the 3.1.0 update announcement:

(8) UPDATE: Acronym Expansion feature now supports auto-linking. Terms can be replaced with a linked version whenever a link is defined as the replacement:

Code:
'vbseo'=>'http://www.vbseo.com'

Well, has anyone got this to actually work? I've been testing this feature and it doesn't appear to work at all. I wanted to confirm this before I opened a support ticket.

Hello,

do you have "Apply Acronym Expansion to all text?" option enabled?

No I do not and here's why. If you do enable the option there's an unfortunate side effect. vBSEO will literally try and re-write forum names, thread names, everything it finds, which is totally undesirable

It really only needs to re-write posts, is this possible?

Currently that option can only be applied to the whole page output.

That's a big disappointment and not what I took from the release announcement.

Everyone should avoid using the 'all text' output with the Acronym Expansion (AE) feature especially if you add URL addresses to your AE box. vBSEO will try and re-write no only your forum text, but the forum names, links, thread titles and really just make a mess of your forum output.

I'm very disappointed that the AE URL link feature, which is supposed to work in 3.1.0, does not work as expected IMO. Juan's announcement and the vBSEO control panel suggest that all you need to do is place the URL in your AE box and they will replace the words they're partnered with.

"Acronym Expansion
This feature is great for increasing SE relevancy. It allows you to replace common acronyms for real phrases in your thread content and titles. Enter one (1) replacement per line."

The key words here being thread content and titles. However that's not the case because with vBSEO 3.1.0 URL acronyms are not re-written as promised. There's no mention anywhere that you must have 'all text' enabled if you want to use URL addresses with the AE feature.

Yes tundra you are right it should really be for posts only, otherwise you can just as easily use the vbulletin option called 'Replacement Variables'

So something to think about, but maybe it's just not possible, i still hope it is though.

I am VERY disappointed also. I have been asking for this in another thread called "auto linking"... I agree it really should ONLY change posts!

NO - it does not... We have been waiting for this feature for a very long time.

The vbseo team has not been very responsive. Mostly empty promisses...
