I have to disagree. Forums have always been a social network, regardless of the new features. These new features will help a site, as they get other people interacting more. The only downside is, there maybe more posts going into 'visitor messages' than the forums.

I hate the bloat too. One day they'll look around and realize no one with large forums uses their software because the performance blows.
